Disney Grand Californian Better Than Disneyland Hotel. (thats a lot of churros and dole whip ) i think i've read the rooms were renovated to not be quite as dark anymore, but we haven't been recently to know for sure. For those looking for comfort and convenience, it doesn't get much better than disney's grand californian hotel & spa.
The rooms are spacious enough and well decorated, especially the headboard in the standard rooms. This property boasts its own exclusive entrance to disney california adventure. Felt very disney to me, frequently saw wandering characters, i love the grounds, the pools and trader sam's, and i love the history of the hotel. This is sooo much better than a suite, because you get a full kitchen, dining room, 2 full bathrooms, sleeper sofa, another pull out bed, washer and dryer, views, convenience, and all while staying at a disney resort! The regular hotel rooms are beautiful, but smaller and darker than i expected for that price range.
However, few compare to the disney experience, only found at the big 3.
Disney's grand californian hotel & spa is the most expensive of the three disney hotels at disneyland resort. We were given a fifth floor room with (shock) just a king bed (yay) at the south end of adventure tower, facing the park. The pools are good and the slide is fun, but the real reason to stay is to keep the disney magic going throughout your entire vacation. It is the closest hotel to the parks with its very own entrance into disney california adventure park and right in the middle of the downtown disney district. The experience here at disneyland is quite different from wdw, where hotel life is a big part of your visit. I'm really torn because i am a huge disney fan and really wanted to stay the the disneyland hotel since its been there the longest and has all the cute disney touches especially the headboards on the beds but it will cost us more then renting dvc points at the grand californian (which i'm not crazy about the decor or that excited about the room). Disneyland is fully immersed in the city of anaheim, with many hotels in walking distance and actually closer than the three disneyland resort hotels hotels. But if you are wanting more of a bright, fun, and totally disneyfied vacation, then choose the disneyland hotel.

Both hotels are very nice, the grand californian has more of a resort type of feel, while the disneyland hotel has larger rooms. The only disneyland resort with its own entrance to the theme parks. The price difference is only $120 total more for grand californian, so very close.
